Reply with quote | #1 | I was wondering how complicated it would be to transfer programs from a laptop to a fanuc sontrol with an rs232 cable. We normally use a greco box. Thanks |

yeah I know it's easy with software, I mean without software. Is there anything built into windows for this kind of data transfer? |

Reply with quote | #4 | Scott,
Once upon a time I used HyperTerminal to do what you just asked about. Under Windows, go to "All Programs" - "Accessories" - "Communications" - "HyperTerminal" and setup the parameters so that they will communicate with your machine.
It's been many years since I had to do this but it worked. |

Reply with quote | #5 | I heard a hint of setting up a COM port as a printer, and printing to that via your "NotePad" software, long time ago.... |

You just looking to save money or something? You can download bunches of DNC freeware strictly for communicating... |

I used HyperTerminal but it wasn't really enjoyable. There are programs that are RS232 diagnostic tools that you can buy to make it a lot easier to do input/output.. but I haven't come across anything that I could specifically recommend. If someone has a free application that they think is good then please post some info! Thanks. |

Reply with quote | #8 | The original question was "Is there anything built into windows for this kind of data transfer?"
My answer was HyperTerminal. If the question has subsequently changed as to what is available, then there are a number of programs available commercially or as shareware. |

I wonder if someone has a freeware application that handles both input and output? There are a lot of commercial programs out there for $30-$150. |

Reply with quote | #15 | If I gave the impression that I was offended because I didn't get a reply to my post, rest assured that I wasn't. My goal is simply to help where I can.
I've made inquiries in the past myself and have always appreciated the help from other programmers who have offered up a solution.
I felt that the "conversation" had drifted away from what the original question was, nothing more and was attempting to steer it back on track.
Bob, please accept my most humblest apologies if I offended you by my comment. |
