David, you're right...I wasn't looking for software, I've been doing this for a long time, and am well aware of the existence of software. I happen to have been given a laptop by my employer and wanted to try transferring programs WITHOUT software...and by the way, why do you care if Bobby was offended?

Dave cares because he ain't a jerk, unlike me.  He's the type of guy that will try to answer vaguely written questions just to help a guy out.

Hyperterminal is the only standard program that is available thru windows.  If you don't even have windows and want to do something thru dos, good luck.

It's cool your trying to do it without software which can be pricey.  But much like machines, nice ones do tend to save you in the long run.  Get something valid and never think about it again.  I use Predator, and it's ok.  It's what we had when I came of age and it works fine.  Had it for over 10 years now.
